PJP Weld Meaning
PJP stands for Partial Joint Penetration. In welding, a PJP weld refers to a type of joint where the weld does not fully penetrate through the entire thickness of the joint.
Instead, the weld is made to a certain depth, leaving a portion of the joint unpenetrated. This type of weld is commonly used when full penetration is not required or when it is not feasible due to design or material constraints.
Below example shows a PJP weld along with PJP Weld symbol for groove weld.
PJP welds are often used in situations where a partial weld is sufficient for the intended purpose, such as in non-critical structural applications or when welding thick materials.
Other names of PJP Weld
Some other names or terms used to refer to PJP welds include:
- Partial penetration weld
- Incomplete penetration weld
- Fillet weld with partial penetration
- Partial joint penetration groove weld
- Partial penetration groove weld
These terms are often used interchangeably to describe the same type of weld joint where the weld does not fully penetrate through the entire thickness of the joint.
